Art Edit Magazine Profile

Joanne’s large-scale hyperrealistic charcoal portraits depict Australia’s leading artists, actors, businesspeople and philanthropists. Her dramatic, wall-sized images have captured the eye of galleries, designers, and private collectors worldwide. After living abroad in London, Tokyo and New York, Joanne is now based in Australia. She draws with a method called ‘painting with charcoal’, developed during her travels through Thailand. This merging of ancient techniques with a fresh and dynamic approach has marked Morris one of the most intriguing portrait artists to watch.

Art Edit says: “Contrasting, dramatic fields of light, shade and texture draw viewers to Joanne’s work. Her intricate portraits add depth and realism to her work.”
